When and how were meadows actually created? Jan Haft, one of the most important European specialists in nature film, embarks on a journey through time that begins around 12,000 years before our era. With the melting of the glaciers, tundra meadows were initially created in our latitudes, on which musk oxen grazed. Soon, human interventions change nature. Realized on HD cam with special optics, elaborate effects and animations, the film tells the story of the development of the most colorful habitat in the world from the Ice Age to today. The film tells why meadows only persist permanently where animals graze the meadow plants or people mow them regularly. Regular decimation of the greenery prevents larger plants from gaining a foothold. This allows herbs and flowers to retain the light they need to survive. Without the influence of animals and humans, the unequal competition of herbaceous and woody plants would always go in favor of shrubs and trees.
