Breathing Under the Sea is a 2016 drama directed by Marine Place, starring Olivia Ross and Aurélien Recoing. This social drama tells the story of Julie (Olivia Ross) and her parents, Loic (Aurélien Recoing) and Louison (Corinne Masiero), who have always lived on a small island off the Breton coast. Julie assists her father on his fishing boat, L’Indomptable (The Indomitable), but their lives are upended when Loic must sell the boat due to debts and the bank demands their home. Breathing Under the Sea marks Marine Place's feature film debut, having previously directed mainly documentaries.
