This short animated film, made using puppet animation, cutout animation and drawn and painted backdrops, shows a day in the life of a painter. He drives to the countryside in his sports car, paints a landscape motif, and finally returns to the city and hangs his painting in an exhibition.
The short animated film KUNSTMALER by Ingrid Gericke was probably made in 1960 as her diploma film in the camera department at the former German Academy of Film Arts in Potsdam-Babelsberg.
A silent 35mm Agfacolor print has survived. This was digitised and restored in 4K resolution by PHAROS - The Post Group in 2023 on behalf of the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF.
