Dames de couleur

Everyday life/Book adaptation, Belgium 2012

Sanata and Dicko are dyers in Mali. Sanata produces colorful bazins in Bamako with her co-wives. Dicko lives in the bush in Dogon country and dyes loincloths with indigo. This film is a journey that takes us from the Dogon village to the big city, from the dark indigo hanging on the banco walls to the bright multicolored fabrics paving the streets of Bamako. He sketches out the similarities and differences between these craftswomen, both in the practice of their art and in economic and social terms. While their know-how is remarkable, the fact remains that they both face the same challenge: ensuring a decent life for their children.
