There are not only blood types that are more incompatible than others, but also genes - with literal effects on the relationship lives of their carriers. At least that's what “Love Type D - Bad Luck in Love is Genetic” tells us about Frankie (Maeve Dermody), who spends her life sliding from one failed relationship to the next. The young woman has already been dumped eleven times by her lovers when she discovers that she has inherited the “Type D dumped gene” (ACDN7).
In desperation, Frankie turns to Wilbur, of all people, the clever little half-brother of her last great love. In place of the cowardly Thomas, the 11-year-old delicately dumped Frankie - and now puts forward a daring theory: Humanity divides into “ditchers” and “dumped”. But in order to reverse this ominous premise, the “break-up gene” must first be activated - by Frankie dating all her exes again and then leaving them on her own.
"Ironic, clever, thought-provoking and superbly written, Love Type D manages to do what many romantic comedies only aspire to achieve. In a seemingly effortless way, Sasha Collington’s impressive debut feature draws you in with an interesting premise, makes you fall in love with its relatable protagonist and keeps you entertained with a series of unbelievably funny moments involving the many characters Frankie happens to meet on her unusual journey." "If Bridget Jones starred in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, the result might be something like this." (Josh Bell, on: crookedmarquee.com)
