In the 1980s, many new faces step into the spotlight: Tim Burton, Rob Reiner, Nora Ephron, George Miller, Amy Heckerling and the Coen brothers. Meryl Streep and Tom Cruise become superstars, while Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis shape a new style of action movies. Teenagers are fascinated by stories that are close to their reality: Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Say Anything and The Breakfast Club. At the end of the decade, independent film becomes mainstream.
